Ch. 5 v. 12-14... Playing Catch-up

I am not really tackling all of these today, just v. 14.  I was a little behind in posting.
For it is a shame even to speak of those things which are done of them in secret.
But all things that are reproved are made manifest by the light: for whatsoever doth make manifest is light.
Wherefore he saith, Awake thou that sleepest, and arise from the dead, and Christ shall give thee light.
Ephesians 5:12-14

Ch. 5 v. 11 ... and a Vocabulary Lesson

And have no fellowship with the unfruitful works of darkness, but rather reprove them.      Ephesians 5:11
REPROVE:
1. To blame; to censure.
2. To charge with a fault to the face; to chide; to reprehend.
3. To blame for; with of; as, to reprove one of laziness.
4. To convince of a fault, or to make it manifest.
5. To refute; to disprove.
6. To excite a sense of guilt.
7. To manifest silent disapprobation or blame.
from Noah Webster's 1828 American Dictionary of the English Language

I love this  1828 version of Webster's dictionary.  Its definitions include several literary and biblical references and quotes for illustrative purposes.  Now to look up disapprobation...

One Hundred

I am doubling up today, memorizing verses 9 and 10, to be able to make it all the way through chapter 5 by the end of January.  Verse 10 is the 100th verse in Ephesians.  God is so good.  I am overwhelmed that I have come this far.  God is faithful and loving and full of grace.  Through the washing of His Word He is changing me.  Deep inside He is changing me, and I am absolutely overwhelmed.  Maybe one day I will write about that.
(For the fruit of the Spirit is in all goodness and righteousness and truth;)
Proving what is acceptable unto the Lord.
Ephesians 5:9-10
Only 47 more to go...

Ch. 5 v. 6-7

Let no man deceive you with vain words: for because of these things cometh the wrath of God upon the children of disobedience.
Be not ye therefore partakers with them.

Ch. 5 v. 5 - Button, Button, Who's Got the Button?

january-2009-is-mega-memory-month.jpg

That IS a game we played in elementary school, right?  I seem to remember something like that.  Anyways, there it is.  Thanks, Ann, for the button instructions.
For this ye know, that no whoremonger, nor unclean person, nor covetous man, who is an idolater, hath any inheritance in the kingdom of Christ and of God.
Ephesians 5:5

UPDATE:  Well obviously I don't have the button.  I HAD the button, but whenever I exit Safari and then go back, the button has mysteriously turned into a question mark.  You can still click it to get to Ann Roeker's MMM page.  I will have to figure this out when I have more time.

I can sew a button, but how do I ADD one?

Ann Kroeker is hosting Mega Memory Month on her blog.  The idea is to put to memory some long passage (Scripture, a poem, etc.) during the month of January and to encourage others who are joining in doing the same.

I will be working on Ephesians 5 for January.  Last summer I started working on memorizing Ephesians and Lea's Remember in September contest helped me complete Chapter 2 and part of Chapter 3 (not to mention start blogging).  It took all of October and November to finish Chapter 3, and I did Chapter 4 in December.  My method is to add a new verse each day and then review previous verses.  (If you look at previous posts you will see that in actuality this works out to sometimes skipping days and doubling up on other days, or in the case of Chapter 3, taking an inordinate amount of time to complete a section.)

I am loving the accountability and deadline aspect of MMM.  It really seems to help me.

Oh, and there is this really nice button for Mega Memory Month with a coral, which I think is a brain coral, which would be totally appropriate, but I have to figure out how to add a button to a blog.

Ch. 5 v. 4

Neither filthiness, nor foolish talking, nor jesting, which are not convenient: but rather giving of thanks.

The End of Ephesians 4!!!!!!!!!!

I can't believe that I'm at the end of Chapter 4.  That is two-thirds of the way through.  Only two more chapters to go!
And grieve not the holy Spirit of God, whereby ye are sealed unto the day of redemption.
Let all bitterness, and wrath, and anger, and clamour, and evil speaking, be put away from you, with all malice:
And be ye kind one to another, tenderhearted, forgiving one another, even as
God for Christ's sake hath forgiven you.
Ephesians 4:30-32
